ALABAMA CHILD SUPPORT CALCULATION : Adjustment for Work-Related Child Care Costs

The Alabama Child Support Guidelines provide an adjustment for work-related child care costs, provided such costs do not exceed
those on the schedule of guidelines for the licensed child care costs published by the Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR). This
schedule is updated yearly. Rates are given for three school ages:

Rates are also given according to four licensing categories. The various categories have maximum adjustment that you may enter for work-related
child care costs. The maximum rate for part-time child care services is one-half the full time rate for the type of care and the age of the child.

Child care allowable rates can be found on the web site for the Administrative Office of the Courts.

The day care presumptive cost calculator is designed to make the presumptive calculation for "each" child and then add them together for the monthly presumptive
total. To do this, information for each child must be provided separately--enter all inputs separately for each child.

Actual day care expenses must be entered in on a weekly basis. The guidelines set weekly ceiling rates. The presumptive allowable amount is the lesser of actual
costs and the ceiling amount.

The number of months that the child or children are in day care must be entered so expenses can be on a monthly average basis.
For example, if a child is in day care only 10 months of the year, the annual day care expense must be averaged over twelve months for the
presumptive input figure in the basic worksheet.

The day care expense calculator will provide an average monthly cost for day care expenses. If day care is not used for the entire year,
the presumptive figure will be lower that the monthly expense during the months that the day care is actually used.
